Solastagia is a new operatic entity delivered to the audience as a virtual experience based on new technologies. Its interactive virtual installation and sound environments are tied together with an application, a "navigator" that allows interaction with the audience.

Imagine an opera… which you could become a part of by means of a computer or phone.

Imagine an opera… which you could either recreate it, or help in its creation.

Imagine an opera… which you can experience on your own, but you will always feel that others were there as well.

Imagine an opera… which can immersed you at home, but you could also allow it to take you to places where it sounds best.

SOLASTALGIA (a term created by Glenn Albrecht in 2003): a complex of mental and physical ailments, depression and anxiety disorders, caused by climate change, a sense of helplessness in the face of changes and overwhelming global media narratives. It's a state of longing for your melting home, felt even though we are physically there. It's only a matter of time before we feel a refugee in our own place.

Wyobraź sobie operę… w którą możesz wniknąć, wejść używając swojego komputera lub telefonu. Wyobraź sobie operę… którą możesz odtworzyć, ale możesz też ją współtworzyć.

Wyobraź sobie operę… której możesz doświadczyć sam, ale zawsze będziesz czuł, że inni też w niej byli.

Wyobraź sobie operę… która może pochłonąć Cię w domu, albo możesz też pozwolić jej poprowadzić Cię tam, gdzie brzmi najlepiej.

SOLASTALGIA: zespół dolegliwości psychicznych i fizycznych, zaburzenia depresyjne i lękowe wywołane zmianami klimatycznymi, poczuciem bezradności wobec zachodzących przemian oraz przytłoczeniem globalnymi narracjami medialnymi na ich temat. To stan tęsknoty za domem, odczuwany nawet wtedy, gdy jesteśmy tam fizycznie. To tylko kwestia czasu, zanim poczujemy się uchodźcą u siebie.

Technological utopias of the late 20th century turned into a dystopia. We experience dissolving of fundamental concepts like human, life, consciousness, nature, culture, art, sensorium, the decay of capitalism, the crisis of democracy, the crisis of faith, including faith in science. Human civilisation is in a state of uncertainty. We immerse ourselves, or dissolve, or perhaps even drown in an ocean of information.

The key inspiration we found in Stanisław Lem’s most original concept – a conscious aqueous animate entity, intelligent ocean – Solaris, or Sola(ri)stalgia....

There is no linear structure in Solastalgia. You can freely plan the course of the opera - independently choosing the order of participation in the designed parts. From each component of a dedicated web application, you can move to another one. Attend it once or visit it multiple times. Your navigator will be "Refugee" - a mobile application that allows you to interact with other parts, co-create the opera, leave your own trace or just witness the process of its creation.

Technologiczne utopie końca XX w. zamieniły się dystopie. Doświadczamy "roztapiania" kluczowych i stabilnych dotąd pojęć takich jak: człowiek, życie, świadomość, natura, kultura, sztuka, doświadczamy kryzysu demokracji, kryzysu wiary, w tym wiary w naukę. Ludzka cywilizacja znalazła się w stanie niepewności. Zanurzamy się, rozpuszczamy, a może nawet toniemy w oceanie informacji.

Kluczową inspirację znaleźliśmy w najbardziej oryginalnej koncepcji Stanisława Lema - świadomy wodny byt ożywiony, inteligentny ocean - Solaris, czyli Sola (ri) stalgia ....

W Solastalgii nie ma konstrukcji linearnej. Możesz dowolnie zaplanować przebieg opery – samodzielnie wybierając kolejność uczestnictwa w zaprojektowanych częściach. Z każdego elementu konstrukcyjnego dedykowanej aplikacji webowej możesz przemieścić się do innej. Uczestniczyć w niej jeden raz lub odwiedzić ją wielokrotnie. Twoim nawigatorem będzie „Uchodźca” – aplikacja mobilna umożliwia interakcję z pozostałymi częściami, współtworzenie opery, pozostawienie własnego śladu lub tylko bycie świadkiem procesu jej tworzenia.

"Solastalgia" may be the last story we will tell together.

Not future generations, but ourself. If you are human then this story is about you. About us. We have brought the place that gave us life to its end. And because we are bound by an unbreakable bond with it, we feel fear. The more so, the more helpless we are. We have the necessary tools to express this grief and anxiety. We combine art, modern scientific theories and technological achievements into one whole. Into one opera. We want to transfer and adapt a full-size stage work into a stand-alone, innovative work performed online and based on new technologies. We want to put them at your disposal in the form of an online installation, equipped with a proprietary interface and open to interaction and co-creation. No matter where you are, who you are and what ending you believe in - we want you to be part of this story, to tell it with us, to be next to us. If the last sound heard from our planet could be the bars of an opera, wouldn't you want to be part of it?

„Solastalgia” może być ostatnią historią, którą opowiemy wspólnie.

Nie przyszłym pokoleniom, tylko sobie. Jeśli jesteś człowiekiem to ta historia jest o Tobie. O nas. Doprowadziliśmy miejsce, które dało nam życie do kresu. A ponieważ jesteśmy z nim związani nierozerwalną więzią, odczuwamy lęk. Tym bardziej, im bardziej jesteśmy bezradni. Mamy niezbędne narzędzia, żeby ten żal i niepokój wypowiedzieć. Łączymy sztukę, współczesne teorie naukowe i osiągnięcia technologiczne w jedną całość. W jedną operę. Chcemy przenieść i przystosować pełnowymiarowy utwór sceniczny do postaci samodzielnego, nowatorskiego dzieła wykonywanego online i opartego na nowych technologiach. Chcemy oddać je do Twojej dyspozycji w postaci internetowej instalacji, wyposażonej w autorski interfejs i otwartej na interakcję, na współtworzenie. Bez względu na to gdzie jesteś, kim jesteś i w jakie zakończenie wierzysz - chcemy byś był częścią tej historii, żebyś opowiadał ją z nami, żebyś był obok nas. Jeśli ostatnim słyszalnym z naszej planety dźwiękiem mogłyby być takty opery, to czy nie chciałbyś być jej częścią?
