Albrecht Puhlmann, Artistic Opera Director

"Nationaltheater Mannheim’s membership to FEDORA is very valuable. The FEDORA Platform helps to realise new, exciting and extraordinary productions and encourages us to include international opera coproductions in our season planning. We also benefit through capacity building in the field of fundraising, which is becoming more and more important." Albrecht Puhlmann, Artistic Opera Director

Nationaltheater Mannheim (NTM) is a multi-genre theatre with a program of opera, drama, dance and theatre for young audience. It is considered one of Germany’s most prestigious stages. Founded in the early 19th century the works of artists like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Friedrich Schiller have laid the foundation of a continuing inspiration for more than 200 years. Today NTM is especially known for its extensive repertoire of opera-productions and one of the largest opera stages in Germany. Since 2016 Albrecht Puhlmann has been the artistic director of the opera. It is his keen interest to develop world premieres and international coproductions as well as new forms of musical theatre. Emerging artists are supported in establishing their careers: The International Opera Studio provides special coachings and practical experiences for young singers.

DISCOVER OUR ON-GOING SEASON

This season we offer our audiences the grandiose world of opera from Vivaldi to Mozart, Verdi, Mussorgsky and Puccini to Hans Thomalla's world première "Dark Fall". At the end of the season, there will be a new edition of the "Mannheim Sommer" festival. We also extend a very special welcome to Roberto Rizzi Brignoli as the new General Music Director at the National Theatre.

SUPPORT OUR ORGANISATION
The National Theatre sees its collaboration with business players as networking, as cooperation on an equal footing, from which both sides benefit in the long term. The theatre develops individual collaborations with each of its partners, creating synergy effects for social events, communication and addressing specific target groups.
ABOUT "DER WAL / THE WHALE"
A whale has beached itself. The question immediately arises as to how to encounter this gentle giant that seems so out of place in our overwater world. Why did the whale come here? How do we deal with this enormous mass of animal that confronts us with the size and vulnerability of nature? As a crisis team, the audience, especially young people, is involved in the action and asked to work together to find a solution to get the whale out of there so that everyday life can continue. Composer Alexander Schweiß, director Valeria Ryzhonina, librettist Oliver Riedmüller and dramaturge Polina Sandler are working together to develop a participatory work of music theatre.
