InclusivOpera - Accessibility at Macerata Opera Festival

Presentation

Expanding and diversifying opera audience through accessibility: we have been leading the way since 2009.
All opera performances are audio described for blind or partially sighted people, with Italian and English pre-recorded introductory descriptions also available online. Our audio descriptions include details provided by the artists themselves in order to highlight the style of and the ‘philosophy’ behind the production.
Fully guided tactile tours: costumes, wardrobe, make-up; set and props; instruments and orchestra.

Sign-language-interpreted tours; Personal Hearing Assistant; live surtitles in Italian and English for all opera performances.

In 2018, the Macerata Opera Festival launched a new accessibility project. In the context of the Sferisterio Education projects (dedicated to students of primary and secondary schools in the province of Macerata), we actively involve blind and partially sighted children and young people in the preparation of audio descriptions for their complete and inclusive enjoyment of the performances. This accessibility project is the first of its kind, in Italy and around the world.
