Presentation

Composer Brian Irvine and librettist John McIllduff are currently in the process of devising a new work for community chorus and orchestra. Commissioned by Dublin City Council as proud Host City of EURO 2020 entitled “Opera Arts Legacy Project”, the work will be premiered in the National Concert Hall in Dublin in June 2020 inspired by Dublin's football community. The work has been devised through a period of research in partnership with axis arts centre, that has seen Brian and John interview fans, attend matches and even play football themselves.

In 2021, INO would like to develop a version of this work, specifically for digital projection, to be played in cities throughout Europe where major football tournaments are taking place. The work would be structured as a collection of 5 individual vignettes for projection. Each vignette will consist of a orchestral work combing either Choral, vocal or recorded sounded with an accompanying filmic element and will feature supporters, players and other individuals involved in the football community in Dublin as performers.

The project is designed specifically to expose communities to the world of opera (both in a participatory sense and as an audience) who otherwise may have never come into contact with the art form.
