Movement workshops, dance performance and international tour addressed and created together with the blind and visually impaired people based on the most famous ballet title ever - “Swan lake”. Let us reinvent this masterpiece: from the darkness and blurred shapes to the world of light.

Warsztaty ruchowe, spektakl taneczny i międzynarodowe tournée adresowane i tworzone wspólnie z osobami niewidomymi i niedowidzącymi w oparciu o najsłynniejszy tytuł baletu w historii - "Jezioro łabędzie". Odkryjmy to arcydzieło na nowo: z ciemności i zamazanych kształtów do świata światła.

About the Project

The "Swans" project results from the need to open an opera house to people with visual disabilities and is a response for the small presence of people with disabilities in the active creation of professional culture and art. The author of the concept - Tobiasz Berg - created a scenario for a workshop and a dance theater performance based on many years of experience in preparing and effectively carrying out tasks in the field of cultural education addressed to the communities at risk of exclusion, including the blind and visually impaired. The first part of the project will consist of workshops, rehearsals, the premiere of the performance and the preparation of a summary publication.

Projekt "Łabędzie" wynika z potrzeby otwarcia budynku opery dla osób z niepełnosprawnością wzroku i jest odpowiedzią na niewielką obecność osób niepełnosprawnych w aktywnym tworzeniu profesjonalnej kultury i sztuki. Autor koncepcji - Tobiasz Berg - stworzył scenariusz warsztatów i spektaklu teatru tańca w oparciu o wieloletnie doświadczenie w przygotowywaniu i skutecznej realizacji zadań z zakresu edukacji kulturalnej skierowanej do środowisk zagrożonych wykluczeniem, w tym osób niewidomych i słabowidzących. Na pierwszą część projektu złożą się warsztaty, próby, premiera spektaklu oraz przygotowanie publikacji podsumowującej.

The inspiration for the workshop activities and the construction of the performance is the attitude of Augusto Boal, his vision of the Theater of the Oppressed and choreography and dance seen as part of body and movement therapy. The workshops will be aimed primarily at people with visually impaired, but will remain open to other audiences, including willing employees of the Poznań Opera House. Among the blind and visually impaired workshop participants, a group will be formed that will participate in rehearsals and continued work on the premiere of the performance based on "Swan Lake". To ensure comfort and maximum sense of security for people with visual disabilities, apart from the experienced creative team, we are planning to invite a typhlo-pedagogue and an instructor of spatial orientation who will accompany the workshops and the process of preparing for the performance.

After the premiere we would like to prepare an international tour to show the created performance in other destinations and again build new possibilities for our participants. The presentation of the performance will be combined with workshops addressed to the local community, during which participants together with creative team became experts and guides through new movements of their own “Swan Lake.

Inspiracją do działań warsztatowych i budowy spektaklu jest postawa Augusto Boala, jego wizja Teatru Uciśnionych oraz choreografia i taniec postrzegane jako element terapii ciała i ruchu. Warsztaty skierowane będą przede wszystkim do osób z dysfunkcją wzroku, ale pozostaną otwarte dla innych odbiorców, w tym chętnych pracowników Opery Poznańskiej. Wśród niewidomych i niedowidzących uczestników warsztatów zostanie utworzona grupa, która będzie uczestniczyć w próbach i dalszej pracy nad premierą spektaklu na podstawie "Jeziora Łabędziego". Aby zapewnić komfort i maksymalne poczucie bezpieczeństwa osobom z niepełnosprawnością wzroku, oprócz doświadczonego zespołu twórczego, planujemy zaprosić tyflopedagoga i instruktora orientacji przestrzennej, którzy będą towarzyszyć warsztatom i procesowi przygotowania do spektaklu.

Po premierze chcielibyśmy przygotować międzynarodową trasę koncertową, aby pokazać stworzony spektakl w innych miejscowościach i ponownie zbudować nowe możliwości dla naszych uczestników. Prezentacja spektaklu będzie połączona z warsztatami skierowanymi do społeczności lokalnej, podczas których uczestnicy wraz z zespołem twórczym stali się ekspertami i przewodnikami po nowych ruchach własnego "Jeziora Łabędziego".

Why should you support us?

By supporting our project, you will help the artists: people with visual disabilities to present the performance ,,Swans" to a wider audience during the international tour Swans vol 2: on Tour. During the tour we will show the created performance in other cities and again build new opportunities for our participants. The presentation of the performance will be combined with a workshop aimed at the local community, during which the participants and the creative team will become experts and guides in the new movements of their own 'Swan Lake'.

As part of the rehearsals we will develop elements learned during the workshops and interpret the ballet "Swan Lake" through the way of thinking of a blind person.

The result of rehearsals, motor tasks during the workshops and talks with the performers, the dramaturgy and structure of the performance will be created. The spectacle prepared in this way will become the story of perception of the outside world by a visually impaired person. The choreography by Marius Petipa was chosen as the starting material, but probably most of the project participants will not had a chance to see this ballet work, so strongly present in European culture.

This motive will become the starting point for building the performance. A group of participants, together with the director and dramaturge of the performance, will explore the topics related to "Swan Lake" based on archival recordings (previously with audio description), literary and musical materials.

The choreographic material of “Swan Lake” will be broken down into the structure of steps and ballet figures. The names of the figures will going to be re-codified by blind and partially sighted people (e.g. the participant will have to develop an original movement for plié, relevé etc.). The choreography that creates a performance will be composed in this way. This approach gives as opportunity to show the world of imaginations, abstractions and “reading” movement by a visually impaired person.

During the tour – what is the clue of the “Swans Vol. 2” project - we are going to continue the research regarding the thinking about movement by blind people during the workshops cocreated this time buy the former participants. The performance created in the first phase of the project will be a pretext for discussion and will create an opportunity to establish contacts between the participants and the visited communities. For the creators of the idea, it will also be an opportunity to further develop and refine the working method.

Wspierając nasz projekt, pomożesz artystom: osobom z niepełnosprawnością wzroku zaprezentować szerszej publiczności spektakl ,,Łabędzie” w czasie międzynarodowej trasy koncertową Swans vol 2: on Tour. Podczas trasy będziemy pokazać stworzony spektakl w innych miejscowościach i ponownie zbudować nowe możliwości dla naszych uczestników. Prezentacja spektaklu połączona będzie z warsztatami skierowanymi do społeczności lokalnej, podczas których uczestnicy wraz z zespołem twórczym stali się ekspertami i przewodnikami po nowych ruchach własnego "Jeziora Łabędziego".

W ramach prób będziemy rozwijać elementy poznane podczas warsztatów i interpretować balet "Jezioro Łabędzie" poprzez sposób myślenia osoby niewidomej.

W wyniku prób, zadań ruchowych podczas warsztatów i rozmów z wykonawcami powstanie dramaturgia i struktura spektaklu. Tak przygotowany spektakl stanie się opowieścią o postrzeganiu świata zewnętrznego przez osobę z dysfunkcją wzroku. Jako materiał wyjściowy wybrano choreografię Mariusa Petipy, jednak prawdopodobnie większość uczestników projektu nie będzie miała okazji zobaczyć tego dzieła baletowego, tak silnie obecnego w kulturze europejskiej.

Motyw ten stanie się punktem wyjścia do budowania spektaklu. Grupa uczestników wraz z reżyserem i dramaturgiem spektaklu zgłębi tematy związane z "Jeziorem Łabędzim" w oparciu o nagrania archiwalne (wcześniej z audiodeskrypcją), materiały literackie i muzyczne.

Materiał choreograficzny "Jeziora Łabędziego" zostanie rozbity na strukturę kroków i figur baletowych. Nazwy figur zostaną przekodowane przez osoby niewidome i słabowidzące (np. uczestnik będzie musiał opracować oryginalny ruch dla plié, relevé itp.) W ten sposób zostanie skomponowana choreografia tworząca spektakl. Takie podejście daje możliwość pokazania świata wyobrażeń, abstrakcji i "czytania" ruchu przez osobę z dysfunkcją wzroku.

Podczas trasy - co jest clue projektu "Łabędzie vol. 2" - będziemy kontynuować badania dotyczące myślenia o ruchu przez osoby niewidome podczas warsztatów współtworzonych tym razem przez dotychczasowych uczestników. Stworzony w pierwszej fazie projektu performance będzie pretekstem do dyskusji i stworzy okazję do nawiązania kontaktów między uczestnikami a odwiedzanymi społecznościami. Dla twórców pomysłu będzie to również okazja do dalszego rozwoju i dopracowania metody pracy.
