Hamburg Ballet is a world-renowned dance company. It was founded in 1973 by John Neumeier, who was its artistic director for over fifty years. Under his direction, the company has forged a unique identity, combining classical ballets and contemporary works by Neumeier, often marked by great sensitivity and real emotional depth. Since autumn 2024, Demis Volpi has taken over the artistic reins. He has injected a new energy while remaining faithful to the spirit of his predecessor.
Most performances take place at the Hamburgische Staatsoper, a landmark theatre in the centre of Hamburg. This is where the company brings its repertoire to life, in an elegant setting steeped in history.
Since 1978, the Ballettzentrum Hamburg has been welcoming young dancers to train with the best. This prestigious school is at the heart of the company's philosophy: to pass on knowledge, encourage creativity and prepare the artists of tomorrow. Through its performances and tours, Hamburg Ballet continues to promote the art of choreography on an international scale.
