The excellence of the Bavarian State Opera has always been a source of international admiration. It therefore goes without saying that the Freunde des Nationaltheaters are committed to living up to this standard together with Fedora.
Andreas Schwankhart, Geschäftsführer / Managing director
We are united by our love of classical music and our desire to preserve and promote the National Theatre – the Bavarian State Opera – as a central cultural hub in Munich.
The association offers its approximately 1,000 members the unique opportunity to develop a special closeness and relationship with the National Theatre as part of a strong community and to shape and participate in its development as friends and supporters.
The association is inextricably linked to the success story of the National Theatre and cultural life in Munich. This involves not only construction measures, but also projects such as the portrait gallery and the promotion of young talent and orchestras.
Of course, we also offer our members special events where they can meet and exchange ideas.

Experience a season of artistic excellence at one of the world’s leading opera houses—featuring exclusive tours, special events, international performances, and inspiring encounters with remarkable artists.
The diverse activities of the Friends of the National Theatre would not be possible without the generosity of its many members and other supporters with an interest in culture. Through their support, these patrons are closely linked to the success of the Bavarian State Opera and cultural life in Munich.
On 27 October 2024, the curtain rose at the National Theatre, heralding the start of a new production of Richard Wagner's ‘Ring of the Nibelung’ at the Bavarian State Opera.
The Rheingold kicked things off, followed by Die Walküre in the 25/26 season and Siegfried and Götterdämmerung in the following season. The production is in the hands of Tobias Kratzer, with Vladimir Jurowski as musical director.
The Friends of the National Theatre are delighted to be partners in this magnificent project and to support the production.
