Calixto Bieito is a renowned Spanish stage director known for his bold, visually powerful productions in both opera and drama, gaining international recognition with works like Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Berlin and Shakespeare productions across Europe. His career, shaped in Barcelona, spans major classical and contemporary works, with a focus on making them feel immediate and relevant without altering their essence. Since 2017, he has served as Artistic Director of the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao while continuing to direct major productions such as Wagner’s Ring Cycle in Paris.
