About the event

On 7 January 2026, the Royal Swedish Opera hosted a traditional Knut’s party, the Swedish “looting of the Christmas tree” that marks the end of the Christmas season, in the grand entrance of the Opera House.

Conceived as a public-facing fundraising event, the celebration invited members of the general public who had donated €20 or more through the Opera’s annual appeals. These contributions support the Opera’s young talent programmes for singers and dancers.

The evening welcomed 103 guests, invited from a total of 134 contributors in 2025, and offered a festive setting to showcase the current ballet talent programme, while presenting the singers’ programme set to launch in autumn 2026. Blending tradition with artistic discovery, the event created a warm and engaging moment between audiences and the next generation of artists.

PLATFORM MEMBER THE ROYAL SWEDISH OPERA AND BALLET

The Royal Swedish Opera is Sweden’s national stage for opera and ballet, and was founded by king Gustav III in 1773. In the beautiful 1890’s building in central Stockholm, a mix of first performances and classical masterpieces are staged every year. All within three main areas: opera, ballet, and activities for children and adolescents.

This was the member’s 2025–2026 roadshow, supported by the FEDORA Platform and co-funded by the European Union.
