About the event

Freunde und Förderer der Staatsoper Unter den Linden gathered on 13 June 2025 for their annual General Assembly—held for the first time under Artistic Director Elisabeth Sobotka and General Music Director Christian Thielemann. The evening highlighted the association’s commitment to artistic innovation, sustainability, and talent development. Central to this mission is Sustainable Listening, the forward-looking format launched in 2022 that creates dialogue between art, society, and climate responsibility, alongside the Orchestra of Change, a national network of musicians advocating for ecological awareness and supporting reforestation projects in Madagascar. This year’s edition also underscored the Staatsoper’s dedication to emerging talent: four young violists from the Orchestra Academy - Guilherme M. Caldas, Yewon Seo, Carlos Nicolay Roldán, and Christina Scap - framed the evening with an intimate performance, exemplifying the Academy’s role in shaping the next generation of orchestral musicians. The event concluded with insights into the upcoming German-language premiere of Cassandra, a powerful opera placing climate change at the heart of its narrative.
