Presentation
Marry me in Bassiani is a choreographic creation of the collective (LA) HORDE. The rehearsals start this winter and the premiere will be in August 2019 at the SommerFestival in Hamburg. The artists say about this work:
“For our previous piece TO DA BONE we worked on the hardstyle-dances (Jumpstyle) that we found on internet. By sharing their practice on internet, the users invent a new emancipation and question the issues of representation and representativity.
This research on post-internet dances and viral dances triggered questions on the origins of these dances, and brought us to understand how they could have been influenced by folkloric or traditional dances.
This led us to discover traditional Georgian dances. On our last trip we met the Georgian Ballet Ensemble ‘’IVERONI”. We were told that under the communist era, the Ballet had served as a national unification but also as a resistance to keep the singularity of the country against the violent Soviet globalization. The instrumentalization of this dance raises interesting questions on how a dance can fight political power, and not be only decorative.
A few months ago, young people from Tbilisi demonstrated on techno music in front of the parliament of their country to contest the raids that took place in several clubs in the city; new places of emancipation of youth. Once again in the history of Georgia, dance becomes a form of peaceful protest, serving both a strong cultural identity and a way to enter in a contemporary life.”
(LA) HORDE is going to work with 16 dancers from th Georgian Ensemble ‘’IVERONI”, using their remarkable skills and extraordinary virtuosity. They will build with them a narrative about what they are, what they live, what they stand for. The sets will show a wedding ballroom. The music will be composed by a composer, who will use Georgian traditional and techno elements.
Artistic Team
(LA) HORDE is a collective founded in 2013 bringing together Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer, both graduates of the HEAR - Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin (Strasbourg) in 2010 and Arthur Harel trained at the Conservatory of Dramatic Art (Paris) in 2011. (LA) HORDE focuses on the codes of different artistic disciplines, particularly in the areas of performing arts and visual art. Their work develops through new medias, staging, film making, video installation, choreographic creation, and performance. The body is at the center of their creation. They define their work as "dances post internet". To Da Bone, their first piece, created with a group of Jumpstyle practitioners from all over Europe started in 2016 for the competition "Danse Elargie" organized by Theatre de la Ville and Musée de la Danse. Ending with the 2nd prize they were able to finish the piece and since then the piece meets a huge succcess in many festivals and theatres in France and internationally. In 2017, invited for Nuit Blanche by curator Charlotte Laubard, (LA) HORDE created a large-scale performative installation entitled The Master's Tools bringing together 130 performers and a ballet of vehicles in a warehouse of 7000m2. In 2018, Christine & the Queens asked them to take the artistic direction and create the choreographies and the staging of her concerts, live show & TV.
The collective are Associate Artists of the Maison des arts de Créteil. (LA)HORDE is supported by the BNP Paribas Foundation and the French Institute.
