Presentation
“Being a very instinctive person, I create material in the moment, allowing myself to be carried by an energy, by a fire that continuously feeds itself. This is my way of burning pain, anxieties and worries, transforming them into something more bearable and absorbing only the energy that cannot harm me.”
“Ravel / Into Us – Bruciare” is a deeply intimate work, inspired by personal experiences and representing a synthesis of Adriano Bolognino’s artistic and human research. The title refers to the flame within each of us: a force of redemption, renewal and transformation that burns the old to make space for the new, while reminding us of the risk of being consumed by our desire to evolve.
Bolognino explains: “This project is also a tribute to my muse and life and professional partner, Rosaria Di Maro, who has always inspired my creative work and represents the other side of the relationship and human connection I wish to explore through Into Us.
It is a multi-chapter choreographic project, with each chapter dedicated to a different composer whose artistic universe resonates with my choreographic research. The first chapter, inspired by Frédéric Chopin, evolved from a solo into a full-length work.
The current chapter focuses on Maurice Ravel’s Boléro, a work I have long wished to explore. I believe Ravel’s compositional rigor can enter into a profound dialogue with my choreographic language through repetition, rhythm and emotional intensity. His inspiration from Spanish traditional dances also offers me the opportunity to reconnect with my origins in Naples.
Together with composer Giuseppe Villarosa, I will deconstruct, repeat and restructure Boléro before returning to the original score with renewed awareness. As Ravel explored the expressive role of every instrument within the orchestra, I wish to investigate each performer’s unique identity, enhancing both their individuality and their place within the collective body."
Artistic Team
The artistic team brings together professionals who share a long-standing collaboration with choreographer Adriano Bolognino and a common research on the relationship between body, sound, space, and visual composition. Adriano Bolognino (Italy) is the choreographer of the project. Born in Naples, he is an emerging voice of the Italian contemporary dance scene, known for a choreographic language that explores movement, memory, and transformation. Rosaria Di Maro (Italy) has collaborated with Adriano since 2019 as a performer and artistic collaborator. Today she works as Artistic Assistant and Project Manager, supporting the creative process and organisation of the project. She will co-create the piece, serving as outside eye, costume designer, sharing her vision and contribution with all the artists involved in the project. Giuseppe Villarosa (Italy), dancer with MM Contemporary Dance Company, is also a music producer and sound designer. He will create the original score in dialogue with the choreography and the music of Maurice Ravel. Gianni Staropoli (Italy) is an award-winning lighting designer. Since 2019, he has collaborated with Adriano on several creations and will design the lighting and scenic atmosphere of the work. Loris Giancola (Italy) is a scenographer who has already worked with Adriano Bolognino. He will create the scenic elements, contributing to the visual identity of the work. The creation will be performed by eight dancers, five of whom already collaborate with Adriano Bolognino and Rosaria Di Maro. The team has been selected for the shared artistic vision and the complementary expertise of each member.
