Lively, vibrant, open, and accessible - that is the spirit of the Nice Opéra. I advocate for a civic opera, deeply rooted in its time and city. At the Nice Opéra, all art forms converge, diverse audiences mingle, and everyone is invited on a journey of discovery, free from hierarchy or boundaries. Now more than ever, we need spaces that inspire, awaken, and challenge us.

With its own orchestra, ballet company, and chorus, the Opéra Nice Côte d’Azur presents an exceptional year-round program of opera, symphonic concerts, and dance. Designed in 1885 by François Aune, a protégé of Eiffel and Garnier, this architectural gem overlooking the sea accommodates up to 1,100 spectators in a magnificently adorned auditorium. At La Diacosmie, its creative hub where costumes are crafted, sets constructed, and rehearsals brought to life, the Opera preserves rare artisanal expertise while continuously pushing the boundaries of stage innovation.
Firmly anchored in a network of local and international collaborations, it plays a pivotal role in the cultural vibrancy of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. Through performances beyond its walls, it makes opera accessible to all and partners with leading opera houses and festivals in France and abroad to enrich its programming and foster artistic exchange. The Opéra de Nice also implements an ambitious policy of openness, aimed at renewing and diversifying its audience.

Inspired by Gandhi’s legacy with Satyagraha, our opera season explores freedom : to forgive (La Clemenza di Tito), to rise (Le Villi), to dare (Don Pasquale), to love (La Traviata), and freedom of spirit (Un Monde Ensemble). This season is also a collective journey and I’m delighted to welcome Pontus Lidberg, new Ballet director, joining Lionel Bringuier and me in a collaborative artistic trio, shaping our institution through the ongoing dialogue between music, dance, voices, and visuals.

Each season, around 100 middle schoolers from priority education networks, alongside 40 young choir members from the Nice Opera, create a lyrical work. Supported by the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, they perform on stage, sharing the pride of collective achievement.
