Schools Opera 2024 © Finnish National opera and Ballet i
Schools Opera 2024 invites primary schools classes years 5-6 all around Finland in the academic years of 2024-2026 to perform together with professional singers and musicians from the Finnish National Opera an original touring opera focusing on the importance of recycling.
Presentation
Schools Opera (SO) aims to encourrage 10-12 years old children to enjoy singing and find new areas of artistic talents and strenghts in themselves in a safe environment. All primary schools, teachers, pupils can do a Schools Opera. No previous experience required. At SO pupils can shine and perform with professionals on stage, experience a thorough artistic journey.
SO invites year 5-6 pupils, 60 per school, to take the stage with 3 professional singers and 3 musicians. As a touring production we travel all around Finland, involving up to 80 schools in 60 locations in 2024-26. The production and performance with local schools can take place at school gyms, local art centers, culture halls or professional theaters.
In 2024-26 in total app. 5000 kids of 10-12 yrs old and app. 25 000 spectators will see the production. To many of them, schools opera will be their first touch to the world opera. t
A typical Schools Opera touring production- after the pilot schools premier in March 2024 at the Finnish National Opera- from the start to the end:
May 2024 teacher training day
Aug-Oct 2024 schools around Finland rehears the opera at school as part of the curriculum.
Director and conductor visits all schools for a day's rehearsal.
Schools continue rehearsing on their own.
Nov- Dec 2024 performances:
20 Schools around Finland will have their performance day:
9am-1pm rehearsals
2pm dress rehearsal and peers come to see the performance.
6pm evening performance, pupils have sold the tickets, can keep the revenue and use it i.e. to a school trip.
Repeat the format each Term in new schools and locations until the end of 2026.
