The European Commission selects the FEDORA Platform to receive grant of over €2 million

The FEDORA Platform has been selected by the European Commission as a beneficiary of the new Creative Europe Programme to receive a grant of over 2 million euros. Thanks to this support, FEDORA will scale its impact for the opera and dance sector in Europe to boost innovation not only on, but also behind and beyond the stage, to drive sustainability, inclusivity and digital transformation.

We will drive change through two funding programmes providing over half a million euros of private funding to opera houses, dance companies and festivals, thanks to the support of Van Cleef & Arpels, Kearney and a private foundation:

FEDORA Prizes Biennale

Since 2013, the FEDORA Prizes encourage the next generation of talent to bring the unexpected to the stage. The four established privately funded prizes (Opera, Dance, Education and Digital) support cutting-edge artistic projects that promote international collaboration, creativity, social integration and intercultural dialogue, as well as digital innovation on stage. By turning into a Biennale, the FEDORA Prizes will provide more extensive activities and support to the nominees. They will have more time to develop their projects and they will have the opportunity to pitch their creations to the jury before the jury selects the winners.

Next Stage Grants

In 2021, FEDORA and Opera Europa launched the Next Stage Initiative to trigger change and recovery in the opera and dance sector behind and beyond the stage. This initiative provides financial support and skills development to boost innovation through sustainability, inclusivity, and digital transformation. Moreover, thanks to the support of Creative Europe, 31 selected opera and dance organisations from 15 countries will benefit from financial support and capacity building:

IMPACT OF THE PROJECT

Support sustainable new artistic productions, their transnational visibility and eco-friendly mobility through the FEDORA Prizes Biennale, while showcasing new work and providing capacity-building for emerging artists.

Promote a fair, inclusive and diverse working and creative environment, and increase the sector’s environmental sustainability with the “Next Stage” grants programme, coupled with peer-learning and cross-sectoral knowledge sharing.
Establish a strong quality label as an ambassador of European values and as a philanthropic platform highlighting new funding models for the performing arts.
Develop new audiences, strengthen the relationship with existing audiences and reach out to younger ones to build responsible, inspired and open-minded European citizens.
Together with its “Platform Members”, 31 opera and dance organisations from 15 countries, FEDORA will encourage cultural organisations to locally spread the best sustainable, inclusive and digital initiatives.

ABOUT FEDORA

FEDORA - The European Circle of Philanthropists of Opera and Ballet is a non-profit organisation that was created in Paris in 2013 under the presidency of Jérôme-François Zieseniss. Paying tribute to Rolf Liebermann, the well-known composer and former opera house director, FEDORA is committed to supporting and contributing to the renewal of opera and dance, supporting the artists of today and reaching out to younger and more diverse audiences.

We experiment with and build new complementary funding models to support innovative and artistic opera and dance co-creations led by emerging artists and staged by opera houses, dance companies and festivals internationally. As a unique European ecosystem enabler in the opera and dance sector, FEDORA brings together the key actors of the industry: emerging artists and their new works, cultural institutions, international philanthropists, and audiences. Over the last nine years, FEDORA invested €1.5 million of private funding in 17 new opera and dance projects, involving 67 co-producing cultural institutions, with performances attended by over 500,000 people, and hosted by 20 countries.
