Hofesh Shechter

Co-Director and Choreographer

Short Bio

Hofesh Shechter OBE is recognised as one of the most exciting artists making stage work today, renowned for composing atmospheric scores to complement the unique physicality of his movement. Shechter’s repertoire for the company includes among others Political Mother and Grand Finale. He has also staged and choreographed works for leading dance companies including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Nederlands Dans Theater 1, Paris Opera Ballet, and Royal Ballet London and choreographed for theatre, opera and television. He is an Associate Artist at Sadler’s Wells.

In 2018 he was awarded an honorary OBE for Services to Dance and the company's first dance film, Hofesh Shechter’s ‘Clowns’, was broadcast by the BBC in September to great acclaim. Shechter will bring his visceral and profoundly moving choreography to this innovative work, along with his deep understanding of music and a
desire to ask fundamental questions about humanity.

“Shechter is a true original.” The Guardian
