Short Bio

Clare has been brought into our team as a dramaturg to support with the development of the narrative for the production. She brings specialist expertise in queer dance and her own lived experience as a gay woman.

Clare Croft is the a dance theorist and historian, as well as dramaturg and curator. She is the author of Jill Johnston in Motion: Dance, Writing, and Lesbian Life and the editor The Essential Jill Johnston Reader (Duke University Press, 2024), and the editor and curator of the book and website Queer Dance: Meanings and Makings. She regularly dramaturgs for Thomas DeFrantz and Jennifer Harge, among others. She is Associate Professor of American Culture at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
