The Haunted Manor/ Straszny Dwór

In 2019 in Poland, we will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Stanisław Moniuszko, a composer who is a very important artist for the Polish opera. Since the Poznań Opera House is named after Moniuszko, we are one of the main performers of the program. The assumption that accompanies us in the preparation of the Moniuszko Year is, on the one hand, a reminder of the works in new scenes, and on the other hand, the promotion of Moniuszko's work among foreign audiences.

On the occasion on Moniuszko's year Poznań Opera House in cooperation with Camerata Nuova and Opera Europa will organize 11 edition of European Opera Directing Prize- international contest to a young opera director.

This prestigious event has been organized since 2001 and annually arouses interest among several hundred participants who have the opportunity to present their own interpretation of the well-known opera title. On the occasion of Stanisław Moniuszko's birthday, the selected competition title for the edition planned for 2019-2020 will be The Haunted Manor.

On the occasion on Moniuszko's year Poznań Opera House we will also cooperate with the 10th International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition. The singers who will win the competition will get involved in The Haunted Manor performance.

The EOP competition is carried out in several stages, in which the participants present the concept of interpreting the opera, defend it against a jury of experienced specialists and try their strength in cooperation with the soloists. The winner gets the possibility of full-scale stage implementation of the competition title - in this case on the stage of the Poznań Opera House. As a theater in which the concept will be exhibited, we have an influence on which of the projects will be selected. Already now the spectacle, which is planned to be implemented under the EOP, was invited to the International May Festival of 2022 in Wiesbaden.
