Va Pensiero - The Euphrates and her stories

From 11 to 16 September 2023, World Opera Lab presented its newest production in Amsterdam (Netherlands): Va Pensiero - The Euphrates and her stories. This opera addresses the current situation of water resources and archaeology in the Middle-East: for this project, the team went to Iraq to interview professionals, find more information on the topic and create materials locally.

The piece, directed by Miranda Lakerveld, is a great example of how artists and activists can collaborate to raise awareness. In a discussion with Salman Khairella, one of the leading water-activists in Iraq, Miranda Lakerveld talked about the importance of these kinds of collaboration to make a change and build a better tomorrow.

The cast included soprano Sabra en Bahri-Khatri, Clarinetist and actor Vincent Martig, ud-player Haytham Safia, pianist Wim Dijkstra and singer/saz player Shwan Sulaiman.
