We are proud to join forces with Opera Europa and the European Theatre Convention (ETC) to deliver a new five-part Sustainability Workshop Webinar Series, in collaboration with Renew Culture and Theatre Green Book, our expert partner on sustainable approaches.
As FEDORA’s expert partner on sustainable approaches, Theatre Green Book continues to support opera houses and cultural institutions in adopting practical, impactful measures to advance their environmental transition. Through this new workshop series, we are bringing together performing arts professionals to exchange knowledge, share experiences and explore concrete solutions for embedding sustainability into artistic and operational practices.
Open exclusively to Opera Europa, FEDORA and ETC members, the online workshop series welcomes participants at all stages of their sustainability journey, whether they are already engaged in sustainability initiatives or are beginning to develop their organisation’s approach to environmental action.
Participants are invited to join the full series or select individual sessions according to their interests and professional roles. Each workshop will feature expert contributions, followed by opportunities for discussion, knowledge-sharing and peer exchange, encouraging participants to share their experiences, challenges and next steps in advancing sustainability within their organisations.
The five workshops will address key areas of sustainable practice in the performing arts:

Modular Stage Construction - Tuesday, 22 September 2026, 11:00–12:30 CEST
Exploring how reusable and adaptable scenic solutions can help reduce material waste and extend the lifespan of stage elements. -
Storage and Storage Management - Tuesday, 24 November 2026, 11:00–12:30 CET
Looking at how effective asset management can support the reuse of scenery, costumes and props while reducing waste and costs. -
Costumes - Tuesday, 26 January 2027, 11:00–12:30 CET
Discussing sustainable approaches to costume production, including material choices, supply chains and alternatives to fast-fashion practices. -
Sustainability Policies and Net Zero Planning - Tuesday, 23 March 2027, 11:00–12:30 CET
Exploring how organisations can develop sustainability strategies and practical pathways towards achieving net zero goals. -
Working with Creative Teams - Tuesday, 25 May 2027, 11:00–12:30 CEST
Examining ways to collaborate with artistic teams and freelancers to integrate sustainability into creative processes.
The workshops will be hosted online in English by Paddy Dillon and Lisa Burger from Renew Culture, alongside Laura Sedgwick from Theatre Green Book. Each session will include contributions from three speakers, followed by Q&A and breakout discussions to encourage collective learning across the sector.
The series builds on the shared commitment of FEDORA, Opera Europa and ETC to support the performing arts community in adopting more sustainable practices. Through frameworks such as Theatre Green Book, which provides a common language and practical guidance for environmental sustainability, cultural organisations can work together to accelerate meaningful change while adapting solutions to their own contexts.
By participating in this initiative, FEDORA continues to foster collaboration, innovation and knowledge exchange among cultural organisations, helping to shape a more sustainable future for opera, dance and theatre across Europe.
Discover the Sustainability Workshops
Opera Europa, FEDORA and ETC are joining up to deliver this five-part sustainablility workshop webinar series.
Whether you have been part of the existing sustainability focus groups, or are completely new to your environmental sustainability journey, please do join us for this workshop series. You are welcome to come to all sessions, or just one or two, depending on your interest and role. Please do forward this to your colleagues, especially if there is a workshop in their field of work.
