Kaija Saariaho

Kaija Saariaho, one of the most talented composer of her generation.

Finnish acclaimed and visionary composer Kaija Saariaho passed away on June 2, 2023.

Born in Helsinki, she studied at the Sibelius Academy, before moving to Germany and then, to France to work at Ircam. Throughout her life, she collaborated with major opera houses and music festivals. Her project Innocence was nominated for the FEDORA Opera Prize 2021. This powerful opera creation, a story about recovery and healing that resonates with current concerns of humanity, received a strong and positive reception from the audience and the press.

Because of the creativity and uniqueness of her work, Kaija Saariaho is considered as one of the most talented composers of her generation. She has left her mark on the world of opera, as her work maintains a lasting impact on the sector and continues to shape and inspire future generations.
