As part of its commitment to fostering international collaboration and supporting emerging talent, FEDORA is proud to highlight one of our international partners, OPERA America, in their Opera Grants for Women Composers: Discovery Grants.

OPERA America, a leading organisation that leads and serves the entire opera community, supports the creation, presentation, and enjoyment of opera worldwide.

The Discovery Grants provide up to $15,000 to support the early development of new operatic works by women composers. These grants fund libretto readings, workshops, dramaturgical exploration, and working performances, helping artists push the boundaries of the operatic medium and bring new voices to the stage. The grants are supported by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation.

A notable recent recipient is Sivan Eldar, who received a 2024 Discovery Grant for Nine Jewelled Deer, created with librettist Ganavya Doraiswamy. Eldar composed  Like flesh, the project that won the FEDORA Opera Prize 2021, a dark contemporary myth offering a profound reflection on our relationships with each other and the planet.

Composers interested in applying should do so before December 18th!
