Jury Nominee

All the different actors in this production, which was intended to be created in July 2020, come together during summer 2020 for several weeks to begin rehearsals.

The composer Kaija Saariaho, the theatre director Simon Stone, and the singer Magdalena Kožená discuss with Pierre Audi, the director general of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, how the sanitary crisis has impacted the future of this creation. They also illustrate how work on the production of this opera is continuing despite the complicated circumstances.

The  Cercle Incises for Contemporary Creation allows philanthropists and art lovers to get a close-up, step-by-step view of the artistic process involved in creating a new opera.

By joining the Cercle Incises in 2021, members are supporting 2 major productions: the World Premiere of  THE ARAB APOCALYPSE (an opera based on the eponymous epic poem by Lebanese-American author and painter Etel Adnan, to be performed at the Luma Foundation in Arles on 4 and 5 July 2021) and of course the World Premiere of  INNOCENCE, originally scheduled in 2020.
