STRAUSS' SALOME AT THE WIENER STAATSOPER
In this electrifying and fascinating work, Strauss pits the sexuality of a young princess against the austere faith of a prophet. When Jochanaan, desired by Salome, rejects the princess, she gets her stepfather, King Herod, to have him beheaded. The hundred-minute one-act play glows like feverish delusions, and the composer shattered the sound and moral concepts of his time. To this day, the music fascinates with its enormous imagery, high emotionality and sharp,
sometimes lurid figure drawing.
In his production, which premieres on February 4th at the Vienna State Opera, director Cyril Teste wants to make "Salome's energy and heartbeat come alive": "In my opinion, the task is to penetrate Salome's intimacy. I tell her family story, the story of a powerful dynasty whose inner workings must bring about what is to come, which is destruction."
IRVINE & JONES' LEAST LIKE THE OTHER AT ROYAL OPERA HOUSE LONDON
A thought-provoking work about Rosemary Kennedy, the older sister of President John F. Kennedy, presented by Irish National Opera from 15 to 19 January 2022. For years, the story of Rosemary Kennedy, the older sister of President John F. Kennedy, was shrouded in secrecy. This explosive and thought-provoking piece of music theatre uses recently-released archive material to explore the events leading up to Rosemary’s disastrous lobotomy at the age of twenty three.
Director, designer and video artist Netia Jones (Current, Rising, ATTHIS, Kafka Fragments) directs a searing portrait of 1940s America. The piece is an indictment of societal taboos surrounding the challenges of mental health, and the doctors whose egos and ‘pioneering’ treatments caused irrevocable damage. Fergus Sheil (Artistic Director of Irish National Opera) conducts Brian Irvine’s kaleidoscopic score.
WAGNER'S TRISTAN UND ISOLDE AT THE PARIS NATIONAL OPERA
From 17 January to 4 February 2023, the Paris Opera presents Tristan und Isolde at the Opéra Bastille. Rediscover the medieval legend of Tristan and Iseult through Richard Wagner's immense lyrical poem, a song of love and death. Peter Sellars' production, acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, is further enriched by Bill Viola's spellbinding videos.

NEW YEAR'S CONCERT - HAROLD NOBEN'S SEXTET AT QUEEN MUSIC ELIZABETH CHAPEL
Belgian composer and pianist, Harold Noben works with various classical music ensembles. From 2018 to 2020, he was in composition residency at the Music Chapel under the supervision of Benoît Mernier as part of the enoa network.
Discover his work on 10 January 2023, during an exclusive New Year's Concert at Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, and discover the world premiere of Noben's brand new sextet, Sous les étoiles de Gaia, alongside a performance of Dvořák's sextet, impregnated with themes of Slavic inspiration.

PETIPA'S GISELLE WITH UKRAINIAN NATIONAL OPERA BALLET AT THE THÉÂTRE DES CHAMPS-ÉLYSÉES
Living and working conditions in Kiev, which have deteriorated further in recent weeks, have made rehearsals for the city company's new ballet
The Snow Queen in Paris difficult or impossible.
The management of the Ukrainian National Opera is therefore forced to abandon the project. Nevertheless, in order to maintain the commitment and support for the Ukrainian National Opera Ballet, and to allow it to perform for the first time since the beginning of the war outside its borders, Sarfati Productions and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, in consultation with the management of the Ukrainian National Opera, have decided by mutual agreement to present one of the great classical ballets of their repertoire, Giselle that les étoiles et le corps de ballet have mastered to perfection, and that will be performed until 5 January 2023.
