Hofesh Shechter, choreographer & winner of the FEDORA – VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Prize for Ballet 2020 for LIGHT: Bach Dances, has returned with a bold and electrifying new work, IN THE BRAIN.

The full-length piece plunges audiences into an immersive experience of rhythm, movement, and collective energy, where the dancers unleash raw physicality that blurs the boundary between stage and audience. With their sheer vitality, Shechter II, the young company founded and mentored by Shechter himself, brings this intense, high-energy work to life with remarkable precision and passion.

The FEDORA team was thrilled to witness this performance in Paris. Our Director Edilia Gänz, Corporate Philanthropy Coordinator Aneta Klímová, and FEDORA President Stéphane Argyropoulos were honoured to attend IN THE BRAIN at Théâtre de la Ville / Abbesses, experiencing firsthand the extraordinary talent, precision, and collective energy of Shechter II.

The ensemble, comprising the next generation of Shechter-trained dancers, demonstrated both technical mastery and fearless artistic expression, proving themselves as torchbearers of contemporary dance innovation.

The FEDORA – VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Prize for Ballet 2020 awarded to Hofesh Shechter for LIGHT: Bach Dances recognised his pioneering work and enduring contribution to contemporary dance. The FEDORA – VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Dance Prize is supported by Van Cleef & Arpels, in collaboration with Opera Europa, and the FEDORA Prizes competition is co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Commission.

Touring across Europe, IN THE BRAIN continues to captivate audiences beyond Paris. Following its Paris run from 1–25 April 2026, the piece travels to the UK with:

  • 10 May 2026 – The Riley, Leeds
  • 27–30 May 2026 – HOME, Manchester
  • 12–13 June 2026 – York Theatre Royal

And a highlight of the tour includes a special performance on:

  • 24 June 2026 during the 46ᵉ Festival Montpellier Danse  –  Amphithéâtre du Domaine d’O in Montpellier

As Shechter II continues to tour, this production reaffirms FEDORA’s commitment to nurturing innovative voices in contemporary dance and supporting works that push the boundaries of the art form, inspiring both audiences and the next generation of dancers.

IN THE BRAIN
Hofesh Shechter’s exhilarating new, full-length work for Shechter II, IN THE BRAIN, is a raw, electrifying dive into movement, rhythm, and collective energy. A pulsing, urgent journey into the depths of our consciousness, where stories dissolve, identity fades, and only the beat remains.
