Metamorphosis: The Next Generation of Dance Takes the Stage

The Greek National Opera Professional Dance School brings a new generation of dancers to the Kalamata International Dance Festival with Metamorphosis, a contemporary double bill exploring the expressive possibilities of movement through works by Cyril Baldy and Jesús Rubio Gamo.

Under the guidance of Director of Studies Yorghos Matskaris, students of the Greek National Opera Professional Dance School take on two demanding contemporary works in a 40-minute outdoor performance in Kalamata.

The programme opens with Cyril Baldy’s With Love and All That – Act II, which reconnects with the raw and expressive power of movement while approaching the timeless beauty of ballet from a contemporary perspective. It is followed by an excerpt from Jesús Rubio Gamo’s Gran Bolero, a work exploring the tension between lightness and gravity, pleasure and exhaustion.

Presented as part of the Kalamata International Dance Festival, Metamorphosis gives young dancers the opportunity to perform works by internationally recognised choreographers within a major festival setting.

The project also extends beyond the live performance through digital communication. The Greek National Opera planned to share trailers, photographs, videos and texts through its official social media channels, bringing the work of the Dance School to audiences beyond Kalamata.
