FEDORA Joins the Conversation on the Future of European Culture in Brussels
Industry News
The exchange gathered senior representatives from the European Commission, including Georg Häusler, Director for Culture, Creativity and Sport at the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC), Catherine Magnant, Head of Unit for Cultural Policy at DG EAC, and Judith Videcoq, Head of Unit for Creative Europe at DG EAC. They outlined current priorities, recent policy developments, and perspectives on the future evolution of European cultural programmes, including reflections on the post-2028 framework.
Discussions then continued in working groups focusing on two of the most pressing challenges facing the Cultural and Creative Sectors today: artists’ working conditions, including artistic freedom and the growing links between culture and health, and access to finance, with an emphasis on innovative financial mechanisms and diversified funding models.
These topics are closely aligned with FEDORA’s mission to support innovation in opera and dance and to accompany emerging artists in building sustainable international careers. The exchange highlighted how European policy frameworks directly shape the realities of artists and cultural organisations across the continent.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to reconnect with peers, share best practices, and reinforce a shared commitment to strengthening the future of culture in Europe.
FEDORA remains grateful for the long-standing support of the European Union, which has enabled the platform to support emerging artists and bring new opera and dance works to stages across Europe for more than a decade.
