Exploring Artificial Creativity at IJAD Dance Company’s Innovation Lab Day Human AI: Artistic Intelligence
We were pleased to have our Innovation & Partnerships Manager, Diandra De Lima, take part in this international gathering, contributing to discussions on AI, creativity, and the evolving future of performance.
Hosted as a multidisciplinary platform for exchange and experimentation, the Lab explored how artistic and machine intelligence intersect in practice, moving beyond conceptual debate to address real-world applications in choreography, dramaturgy, audience engagement, and production. It also created space for critical reflection on the ethical, aesthetic, and organisational questions emerging as AI becomes increasingly embedded in creative workflows.
This year’s edition featured contributions from participating organisations including HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Immersive Arts, the British Council, The Audience Agency, and the Generative Arts and Design Lab (xm:lab — HBKsaar), alongside speakers such as Mert Akbal, bringing together a diverse range of perspectives at the intersection of performance, technology, and research.
Within this context, Diandra shared insights from our work at the crossroads of digital transformation, cultural partnerships, and innovation in the performing arts. Her contribution highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration and European cultural networks in supporting responsible experimentation with AI, ensuring that technological development remains grounded in artistic integrity and cultural value.
The event reflected a shared commitment across the sector to engage critically and creatively with emerging technologies, and to ensure that innovation in the performing arts remains artist-led, collaborative, and future-facing.
