With the eXoplanet festival, Theater Magdeburg establishes a venue for new music theater in central Germany outside of centers such as Berlin, Rotterdam, or Munich. The focus is on performative music-dramatic formats that encourage audiences to leave behind their internalized viewing and listening habits.

The backbone of the first edition of eXoplanet is formed by two in-house productions by Theater Magdeburg. A competition for an innovative music theater project from the independent scene offers a glimpse into the future: the winning production, selected by an international jury, will be shown during the festival in Magdeburg. Guest performances and accompanying events throughout the city complete the program.

Three days, ten performances, seven venues. From medieval monastery to historic green houses, from industrial wasteland to riverside beer gardens.

eXoplanet included performances by Lisa Pottstock & Kris Kuldkepp (competition winners), Anke Retzlaff & ensemble, Emilie Renard, TIMUR, ensemble Theater Magdeburg, Pipsqueak, tutti d’amore, Magdeburgische Philharmonie and an all-female community ensemble.
