Industry News, Nominee

The Lebanese choreographer Omar Rajeh, in collaboration with Maqamat, presented the world premiere of Dance People, at the Edinburgh International Festival in August 2025. Dance People is a FEDORA - VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Dance Prize 2025 Nominee, supported by Van Cleef & Arpels, in collaboration with Opera Europa, as part of the FEDORA Prizes Biennale competition that is co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. This marks the first time a Lebanese and Arab dance company has been co-produced and presented by the festival since its founding in 1947.

The performance brings together ten dancers, musicians, and a visual artist in a participatory format, inviting the audience to share the stage. The work explores themes of collective presence, community, and shared space, featuring live music composed by Mathias Delplanque and Ziad El Ahmadie, with vocals by Lebanese singer Abdul Karim Chaar.

Dance People includes artists from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. A European tour is planned for 2026, with performances in Switzerland, France, Italy, and Germany.

Dance People - Nominee of the FEDORA - VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Dance Prize 2025

DANCE PEOPLE, is a title that directly represents itself. It highlights the values of community at the heart of creativity, claiming its presence through sharing the space with citizens and allowing new formats of ‘being together’ to emerge.
