Communications & Marketing Forum

From Sunday 14 May to Tuesday 16 May, the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, Brazil, hosted the Communications and Marketing Forum of Opera Latinoamérica in São Paulo and Manaus.

Through this forum, OLA (Opéra Latinoamérica), an organisation created in 2007 and led by its Executive Director Alejandra Martí, reunited over 20 panellists from Latin America, Europe and the United States. Discussions revolved around the most pressing challenges and opportunities on topics ranging from “The challenges of communicating in the era of hyper information” to “Social impact and the communities”, while touching upon the metaverse, emerging technologies in theatres and new behavioral tendencies in the sector.

On 16 May, the panel “Technology in theatres: Approaches and new trends” welcomed Natalia Camacho, Director of Audiovisual Production and Broadcasting at Fundación Teatro Real, Platform Member of FEDORA, and Annastina Haapasaari and Hannu Järvensivu from the Finnish National Opera and Ballet, Platform Member of FEDORA. They presented their Next Stage Grant Recipient project, XR Stage phase 2. The discussion was moderated by Carmen Gloria Larenas, General Manager of Theatro Municipal de Santiago, Chile.

On Monday evening, guests had the opportunity to see the premiere of Opera Outside of the Box: Gerschwin's Blue Monday, a collaboration between the City Ballet and the Choire of the city of São Paulo, directed by Maíra Ferreira, at the Theatro Municipal.

On Tuesday evening, attendees watched the Brazilian opera O Guarani, by Carlos Gomes, bringing native indigenous guarani artists to the stage.


16th Annual OLA Conference in Manaus

From 17 to 21 May, at the Teatro Amazonas in Manaus, Brazil, over 100 professionals from Latin America, United States and Europe reunited for the 16th Annual OLA Conference. At the core of the conference, among other topics, was coproduction and the circulation of opera activities, as OLA inaugurated its Productions Market.

Participants also learnt about new tools that theatres and cultural organisations can develop regarding their approach to sustainability.

Another part of the discussions centred on innovation and the use of data and new technologies in theatre management, with professionals from the Inter-American Development Bank, the University of Guadalajara, the consultancy firm Teknecultura and IE University.

After a breakfast between women who work in Opera, the Women Forum of OLA was launched with the goal to support and develop the leadership of female professionals in the sector.
