Based in 2019, Balletto di Venezia is a classical ballet company with a bold mission: to revive and sustain the historic tradition of ballet in Venice, a city that was once one of the world’s great capitals of dance. Founded in 2019, the company reconnects classical and neoclassical ballet with contemporary artistic sensibilities, while placing strong emphasis on education, accessibility, and the next generation of dancers.
The company is led by Alessio Carbone, Artistic Director and Co-Founder, whose international career as Premier Danseur at the Opéra national de Paris and deep personal ties to Venice shape the artistic vision of the project. Gerardine Connolly, Executive Director and Co-Founder, brings extensive expertise in governance, leadership and cultural advocacy, ensuring the company’s long-term sustainability and international outlook.
At the heart of Balletto di Venezia is a deep commitment to exploring the emotional and expressive potential of movement. The company collaborates with a diverse group of choreographers, dancers, musicians, and visual artists to craft works that resonate with authenticity and creative depth. Through interdisciplinary projects,
Balletto di Venezia strives to build meaningful engagement with both local and international audiences by fostering dialogue between artists and the public through performances, workshops, and educational activities. Deeply connected to its city, the company brings ballet into everyday life in Venice through open rehearsals, special events, and performances in iconic locations. Looking ahead, Balletto di Venezia aims to establish a permanent, year-round home in the historic centre, serving as both a performance venue and an open space for learning, discovery, and community engagement.
By joining the FEDORA Network, Il Balletto di Venezia strengthens its commitment to artistic excellence, accessibility and the future of ballet in Europe. We look forward to supporting its vision as it brings classical dance back to the heart of Venice and beyond.
