Ora di Opera

Teatro Regio Torino

Teatro Regio Torino

Presentation

Ora di Opera is a project developed by Teatro Regio Torino in collaboration with Articolo 9: at its core is the personal, artistic and educational growth of young pupils. The project delivers a series of workshops finalized to the making of a short opera: a unique program where music, dance and drama come together to provide an artistic education for teenagers from varied background.

The workshops are delivered over few months in weekly activities focused on the three fields of drama, street-dance and choir practices: as well as individual practice, Ora di Opera is about the conversation, connection and cooperation among participants. A team of experts will lead the workshops: artists, educators and social workers will come together to deliver a significant experience. Coordinating arts with educational aspects, the project aims to generate social and cultural value, active participation and cultural enrichment.

It will involve 6 classes, corresponding to about 100 students: each class will participate in a total of 24 workshops plus rehearsals finalized to the staging of a final performance at the theatre Piccolo Regio. The activities will take place in the school during normal school time, in order to enhance cultural integration and exchanges.

The project addresses teenagers aged 14 to 18 years old, aiming at:
- Fostering their cultural knowledge;
- Improving their relational skills with others, may they be their fellow students, teachers or parents;
- Enhancing their growth as individuals in society.

The final performance represents a key element of the program: it gives participants the chance to come together, have fun and live the theatre experience at its best. The final show represents a gratifying way of ending a journey like this and it is also a way for children to experience all the different aspects of the performing arts, involving them on a deeper level and providing them the opportunity to discover new passions and professions. They will in fact have the opportunity to work with highly qualified professionals, both technicians and artists (in addition to the artistic team holding the workshops, a professional singer will be involved in the project and perform the title role).
