FEDORA - The European Circle of Philanthropists of Opera and Ballet ( is a non-profit organisation that significantly contributes to the emergence of a new generation of artists and to the future of opera and ballet.

To this end, FEDORA raises through private and corporate sponsorship funds to support new creations that redefine these art forms.

FEDORA developed two funding programmes to support innovation: The FEDORA Prizes Biennale & Next Stage.

The FEDORA Prizes Biennale: FEDORA awards four Prizes, the FEDORA Opera Prize, the FEDORA - VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Prize for Ballet, which are awarded to co-productions led by teams of artists who are committed to the creation of an innovative opera or dance, the FEDORA Prize for Education that encourages social integration and intercultural dialogue, and the FEDORA Digital Prize for digital innovation on and beyond the stage. This unique competition has been recognized as the “world’s largest competition for opera and ballet”.

Next Stage: FEDORA and Opera Europa launched Next Stage, an initiative for change in the opera and dance sector. It aims to provide financial support and skills development to boost innovation and holistic sustainability in three focus areas - green, inclusive and digital transformation – in order to build resilience within the performing arts sector. Driven by opera and dance companies, Next Stage’s 3-year plan will enable these institutions to transform themselves in order to flourish in the future, while opening up new funding opportunities. As of spring 2022, grants will be distributed to support the development of innovative, scalable projects championed by opera and dance companies for the benefit of the sector. 45 opera and dance companies in 17 countries have already committed to this initiative.
